Under the Gold Dome: 2024 Legislative Preview

We hope the New Year finds you and your family healthy and whole. As the start of the 2024 legislative session rapidly approaches on January 8, we wanted to take a moment to provide a preview of key priorities the Georgia General Assembly will take up over the next 40 days.

Cutting Taxes and Lowering Costs:

One of the cornerstones of our legislative agenda is continuing to keep costs low, fight inflation and reduce the tax burden of hard-working Georgians. As Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and Co-Chairman of the Tax Credit Review Committee, I will continue working tirelessly alongside my colleagues to ensure our fiscal policies are pro-jobs, pro-growth and pro-family. By identifying further opportunities to drastically simplify and streamline our tax code wherever possible, both in understanding and in practice, we’ll stimulate economic growth and return money back into the pockets of hardworking Georgians.

Expanding Access to Healthcare:

Improving access to quality healthcare is a top priority this session, and legislators focus on initiatives to expand healthcare access across the state, particularly in rural and underserved areas. Our goal is to implement policies that enhance healthcare infrastructure, improve affordability, and address disparities in healthcare outcomes. By working collaboratively, we aspire to build a healthier Georgia for current and future generations.

Funding K-12 Education:

Our commitment to education is unwavering. This legislative session, we will once again prioritize fully funding K-12 education to ensure that every child in Georgia has access to a high-quality education. Investing in our schools, teachers, and students is an investment in the future success of our state, and we’ll continue providing the resources necessary for educational excellence.

Early Education and Workforce Demand:

Recognizing the critical importance of early education, especially reading on grade level, we will focus on addressing funding gaps and teacher shortages statewide. By investing in early childhood education, literacy programs and our educators, we aim to lay a strong foundation for the academic success and personal development of our youngest learners.

Continuing Work on Rural Development Initiatives:

Rural development remains a top priority, and we will continue our efforts to boost economic opportunities, infrastructure, and healthcare access in rural communities. By implementing targeted policies and initiatives, we aim to bridge the urban-rural divide, fostering sustainable growth and prosperity for all Georgians, regardless of their zip code.

In the District:

At home in the district, we had the pleasure of joining Speaker Burns and legislative colleagues at Central Georgia Technical College for a visit. We also helped wrap and deliver Christmas presents, attended the Museum of Aviation Christmas Tree Showcase and enjoyed the Warner Robins Christmas parade.

Last, but certainly not least, we cheered on the Perry High School football team at the school pep rally ahead of the championship game. Congratulations to these hard-working players and their families!

In closing, please be on the lookout f or ongoing legislative updates throughout the 2024 legislative session as there is much to cover where our government is concerned. In the meantime, if you need anything at all, please let me know.

Thank you for the honor of allowing us to serve as your voice under the Gold Dome, as we work towards simple, smart and effective government. May God bless you and may He continue to bless the great state of Georgia.
