Agriculture
It is no secret that the agriculture industry is our state's top economic driver. Our region of the state happens to be home to some of the largest farms in Georgia which provide jobs and stability to our local citizens. Representative Blackmon will continue to support legislation fostering the health and growth of the agriculture industry.
Defense and Veterans Affairs
Representative Blackmon’s grandfather, a veteran of World War II, finished his career at Robins Air Force Base. As a result, Representative Blackmon is passionate about his commitment to ensuring the longevity of RAFB as well as to supporting the veterans who call Houston County “home.” He has supported legislation to expedite professional and business licenses for military spouses as well as supporting legislation that eliminated the income tax on military retirement income of up to $17,500 as well as supporting additional offsets of $17,500 on earned income for veterans. He will continue to fight for legislation that supports our veterans, active duty men & women and their families.
Economic Development/Job Growth
Representative Blackmon is committed to ensuring our region of the state is the best place to live, work and raise a family. He has worked hard to foster policies that not only assist those wishing to bring their business here, but also that support the small business owners in Houston County.
Education
Constituents of the 146th District are fortunate to have the one of the best public school districts in the state, and Representative Blackmon plans to keep it that way. As a product of the Houston County School System, he is passionate about providing our children with the best education possible. Representative Blackmon has been instrumental in making sure education dollars allocated at the state level go directly to the school system to be used as they see fit. He has supported passage of Georgia’s Parents Bill of Rights to ensure transparency in what students are learning as well as supporting the Georgia Civic Renewal Act that provides for a mandatory course in financial literacy.
Taxes
Representative Blackmon has worked tirelessly to offer substantive change and reform where our tax code is concerned. Every dollar the government spends was first earned by a hardworking citizen. He believes that government revenue should be raised from taxing consumption, not productivity. He has and will continue to support fiscally conservative policies. Representative Blackmon’s priority is to cut spending, not raise taxes. He has followed through on these priorities by authoring a historic $1 billion dollar tax cut bill that will roll back Georgia’s income tax rate from 5.75% to 4.99% over six years.
